The Rainforest Folk

The Rainforest Folk is our community arts project celebrating Oban as a woodland town, led by Beth Chalmers and Mika Schröder. Through a series of spring-time woodland workshops with local primary schools, poets and artists, we engaged our senses and inner creativity, together creating written pieces about our relationship with the Atlantic rainforest on our doorstep.

Guided by Beth, Mika and Kirsty MacDonald, over 100 community members across Oban and our surrounding areas came together to contribute towards our community poem. The final workshop allowed participants to become creative directors in weaving together our experiences and relationships with the rainforests into a collective spoken word piece. We crafted not one but SIX community poems about our relationship to the Atlantic rainforest. This is the focus of a short film, performed for and by our community. Watch it below!
