Earlier last week, One Million Miles passed 27,000 miles! - we circumnavigated the world on Monday (passing 24,901 miles on the Totaliser) and have just kept on going. In fact, throughout the month of April we clocked up more than 13,000 miles! Read on to find out what’s coming up during May.

One Million Miles Beach Clean

Million Mile Beach Clean Picture.png

This month, we’re partnering with Surfers Against Sewage in their Million Mile Beach Clean initiative. SAS are helping local groups organise community beach cleans all round the UK coast, so we’re going to do our bit for Oban kicking off with a beach clean on the15th May.

We’ll be out with our paddleboards, kayaks, wellies and buckets to clean up our coastal spaces from Gallanach to Ganavan, Tralee and beyond! Keep an eye on the Adventure Oban website and socials for more information and why not join the Facebook event by clicking this link: https://fb.me/e/FRas3XMv

The One Million Miles Cup | Argyllshire Gathering

OHS One Million Miles.png

Oban’s Argyllshire Gathering celebrates its 150th anniversary this year and we’re helping them mark the occasion. Since One Million Miles kicked off on the 5th of March, the 7 clans of Oban High School and Tiree High School have been competing for the One Million Miles Cup. This is a prize for the clan with the most number of miles come Games Day on the 26th August. So, if you’re in one of Clansman, Claymore, Columba, Diarmid, Fingal, Ossian or Somerled -get those miles in, select your clan when logging the miles on the AO website and help keep your clan in the running for the cup.

Adventure Library

We are making good progress setting up the Adventure Library. This is our idea to help make it easier for our community to access expensive outdoor kit. Much like a conventional lending library, members will be able to check pieces of equipment out for short periods of time before returning them for others to use. We’re in the process of preparing our inventory and are hoping to launch in the summer. We’ve already had generous donations including wetsuits that were previously used at Kilbowie, tow-floats donated by Scottish Sea Farms and a whole range of backpacks, snorkels, OS maps and more.

If you have any adventure kit that you’ve recently replaced, don’t fit anymore or just don’t use enough to justify its space in the shed, let us know and you can donate it to the Adventure Library!

One Million Miles | Top Tips

Here’s a few handy hints to help you when heading out to log activity for One Million Miles:

1. Log your Strava miles. We’ve realised not everyone knew that the Strava group doesn’t automatically update your miles! You need to log them separately at adventureoban.org/onemillionmiles

2. Add One Million Miles to your phone’s home screen. Click the 3 dots on your phone browser of choice and choose ‘add to home screen’ to create a shortcut that makes it even easier to log your miles!

3. Take Miltean on an adventure. Miltean had a really busy April - he was up Cruachan, on Tiree (via Mull), went to visit Easdale Primary, stopped in to go adventuring with Rockfield Primary, Dunbeg Primary AND Park Primary - and lots more! But, he’s got energy for much more so if you’d like to take Miltean on an adventure send an email to hello@adventureoban.org or DM us on Facebook or Instagram.

That’s all for now - there’s lots more to come so keep in touch via the Adventure Oban website and social media channels.

Here’s to Adventure!
